There are two primary categories in this; damaged passport, where your passport number is readable, the name is legible, and the photograph is intact, and the other is when your passport is damaged beyond recognition.
What is the course of action when someone has lost their Indian passport but needs to travel to India urgently?
If your passport was lost while you were travelling then you can come to India with an “Emergency Certificate”. You will have to get in touch with authorities concerned with this in India.
If my passport is lost or damaged, how do I re-apply?
If you lose your passport, you need to immediately inform the police, the Passport Office, or the Indian authorities concerned, if you are abroad. You can get a Re-issued passport at the nearest Passport Seva Kendra after submitting the required documents.
Do I need a photocopy of my lost/damaged passport for Re-issuing new passport?
As long as you have your passport details like; passport number, date of issue, place of issue; you will get your passport re-issued. However, if you don’t have those details then you must contact the Indian post to get the same.
If I need to travel abroad urgently, and my passport is damaged, how can I get the passport quickly?
If your passport is not damaged beyond recognition then you can easily apply for re-issued passport under Tatkal. However, if it is damaged beyond recognition, then you can only get it from the Passport Seva Kendra on urgent basis.
What are the documents required for re-issuing of passport?
Following documents are required at the time of application for re-issue of passport.
· Proof of present address proof
· Proof of DOB
· Affidavit stating how and where your passport was lost/damaged. (Annexure ‘L’)
· Original Police report
· Self-attested photocopies of first two pages and last two pages, including the ECR/Non-ECR page of old passport, only if you have it available.
