Baby dies after being dropped from 3rd floor escalator in Shanghai mall when grandma loses balance

Shocking footage has emerged showing a grandmother accidentally dropping a toddler off the side of a third-floor escalator in a Shanghai shopping mall. The toddler, who was just four months old, suffered fatal head injuries from the fall.

This comes a year after an unsupervised toddler fell from the side of a shopping mall escalator in Dongguan, dropping eight meters to the floor, along with a string of infamous escalator-related accidents that have terrified shoppers around China.

Paramedics arrived on the scene quickly after being called by mall staff. The infant was rushed to hospital where he was pronounced dead shortly thereafter, The Sun reports. The location was the Wu Yue Plaza department store in Qingpu District, and the escalator in question had no previous incidents on record.

People can point fingers, heap blame and heavily criticize those who are supposedly at fault, but no amount of that can reverse the events that have occurred, or bring closure to those affected. Therefore, we ask you all to keep in mind the victims of this tragedy when providing feedback.

Our thoughts and hearts go out to the family affected.
