14 people have been reported injured in a suicide blast in the Iman Zaman Shia mosque in Kabul on Friday. The blast came right after a gunfire on innocent worshipper who had gathered in the mosque in Qala-Najara for Friday prayers.
A security guard and the cleric who performed the prayer were killed in the attack, as per initial reports. A member of Afghanistan’s Shiite clerical council, Mir Hussair Nasiri said that the attackers were spread over in both the praying portions for men and women.
According to a Police official, Mohammed Jamil, the attackers are still on the mosque premises. He added that the security forces have surrounded the mosque but haven’t advanced in to avoid casualties.
The attack has been claimed by the Islamic State militants. They had also claimed the attack on Iraqi embassy in Kabul last month.
