Woman buys ring for QR47, sells it for QR3.1 million

She bought it from a flea market.

A woman from London who bought a ring for only $13 (QR48 approx) got the surprise of her life when her custom ring was auctioned for $850,000 (QR3.1 million approx).

According to a Filipino Times report, the woman bought a ring for $13 at a flea market. It was the only money she had left in her pocket.

It was a stranger she met at a supermarket that got her curious about the ring's value. That man was following her and looking intently at her ring. Scared that the man might be a con man, she immediately left the store that day.

The following day, she decided to bring the ring to Sotheby's to have it appraised. The company asked for a week to make the assessment.

When the results of the appraisal came, she received the surprise of her life. Her Dh48 ring was in fact, a giant, 26-carat cushioned shaped white diamond from the 19th century. Jessica Windham, who heads all the Sotheby's jewellery department, explained that a ring of such value was probably owned by someone in the Royal Family in the 19th century.

When the ring was put under the hammer, it sold for a staggering $850,000 (QR3.1 million approx).
