Dhanteras 2026: What Gold Jewellery Trends Are UAE Buyers Choosing?

UAE Shoppers Change Their Gold Buying Preferences

As Dhanteras and Diwali approach, gold shopping remains an important tradition among Indian families living in the UAE. However, changing gold prices are influencing how customers plan their festive purchases this year. Instead of choosing heavy traditional jewellery, many shoppers are showing interest in lightweight chains, smaller bangles and modern designs. Natural diamond jewellery and coloured gemstones are also becoming popular alternatives. Buyers are increasingly looking for pieces that combine traditional appeal with everyday practicality and affordability.

Lightweight Jewellery and Modern Designs Gain Popularity

Jewellers across the UAE are noticing a shift towards versatile jewellery that can be worn beyond festivals and weddings. Lightweight gold chains, diamond pendants and everyday bangles are attracting customers who want stylish options without spending heavily on larger pieces. Traditional 22-karat gold necklaces, bangles and chains continue to remain popular, particularly among Indian buyers. Meanwhile, some international customers are showing greater interest in 18-karat jewellery. Retailers are responding by offering collections that suit different budgets, cultures and personal preferences.

Gold Prices Influence Festive Shopping Budgets

Gold prices have experienced significant fluctuations throughout 2026, encouraging UAE shoppers to pay closer attention to market movements. On November 3, Dubai's 22-karat gold rate stood at Dh439.25 per gram, while 24-karat gold was priced at Dh474. Compared with Diwali last year, both rates were lower, offering some relief to festive buyers. However, many customers are adjusting their purchases by selecting fewer grams, exchanging old jewellery or exploring smaller designs. Festive traditions and wedding preparations continue to support demand despite changing prices.

Jewellers Introduce Flexible Payment and Exchange Options

To attract festive shoppers, jewellery retailers are introducing advance-payment plans, exchange programmes and special seasonal offers. Some schemes allow customers to pay an advance amount and secure a prevailing gold rate for a planned purchase. Exchange programmes also give shoppers an opportunity to replace older jewellery with contemporary designs. However, customers should carefully review making charges, purity deductions, stone costs and applicable taxes before purchasing. With Dhanteras falling on November 6 and Diwali on November 8, UAE jewellers remain optimistic about festive demand, even as buying preferences continue to evolve.
