PSD-PTA play the Good Samaritans, help distressed OFWs

Under the aegis of its community outreach programme ‘PSD-PTA Goes Out to Community’ the Philippine School Doha Parent-Teacher Association (PSD-PTA) donated 18 air tickets to the Philippine Overseas Labor Office (POLO).

Out of the 18 tickets, 11 were immediately handed over to distressed Overseas Filipino Workers (OFWs), who were under the temporary care of POLO, the tickets were handed to them during a ceremony held at the closing of the outreach programme. In addition to the Philippine Labor Attache to Qatar David Des Dicang, the event was also attended by PSD-PTA Chairman Jehmar Tabili, PSD Principal Dr Alex Acosta and members of the school's Board of Directors.

It is due to the collaboration and cooperation of the parents as well as the teachers of the school that first outreach programme of PSD-PTA was such a grand success, said Jehmar Tabili.

Funds for the outreach programmes were raised and collected from the community of parents and teachers of the school, however, 3 air tickets were directly sponsored by some parents. It was our way of giving a little bit back to the community, of which we too are humble members, he added.

The outreach programme is part of the ‘Board of Directors’ initiative to take greater interest in the community matter and contribute in whatever ways possible, he pointed out.

In addition to the air tickets, cash in the amounts of QR50 were handed out to over 100 distressed OFWs housed at the POLO facility. The OFWs were also provided with dinner on the occasion. A facility from where residents of POLO could call back home free of charge was also set up at the occasion.

The event was emotionally charged and many attendants could be seen crying during the programme. The theme of the project ‘‘we make a living by what we get, but we make a life by what we give” was clearly articulated at the event. The event was a milestone in the history of the PSD-PTA community, the Chairman added.
