Qatar a step closer to introduce Permanent Residency ID in Qatar to qualified expats

The bill regarding qualified expats to get Qatar’s permanent residency is under discussions with the Qatar Government. Once this bill come in force these expats will be eligible to enjoy benefits normally enjoyed by the citizens like access to free state education and health-care. These expats will also enjoy the rights to own properties and run businesses without the dependency of Qatari partner.

 

In the Gulf region, Qatar is the first country to offer expats permanent residency. This new residency status will be applicable to the children of Qatari women who are married to non-Qatari man if they meet the conditions specified in the law, people with special skills or talent needed by the state and individuals who have served the country in a prominent way, whatsoever citizenship won’t be granted to the foreigners.

Privileges that comes to expats who receives the permanent resident status are

1. Access to health-care services and education.

2. They will get the priority after the local people in military and civilian public jobs.

3. Right to own property.

4. Right to run business without a Qatari partner.

It is a revolutionary act by Qatar and it is the respect and honor Qatar gives to the expats who have established their life and career in the country.

In January 2018, HE Ahmed bin Abdullah bin Zaid al-Mahmoud, the speaker discussed the draft law with his advisory council and bought it a step closer to being approved. This Ministry of Interiors will work on and create a Permanent Residency ID Granting Committee to effectively review the applications for permanent residency.
