Dubai expat spends Dh170k on raffle tickets, wins $1m twice

A 51-year-old South African from Johannesburg has won $1 million in Dubai Duty Free Millennium Millionaire promotion in Series 274 with ticket no. 2166 at the draw held on Tuesday at Concourse B - Terminal 3.

A regular participant to $1 million promotion for the last two years, G Lubbe purchased his winning ticket online on May 10. He was understandably speechless and couldn't believe his luck upon hearing the news on the phone and said: "I have always hope to win and I am thankful for this opportunity given by Dubai Duty Free, and for my lucky numbers that brought me this great fortune".

Lubbe, who runs his own IT business also works for Traxys, a leading physical commodity trader and merchant in the metals and natural resources sectors, is the fourth South African national to win a million dollars since its inception in 1999.

Musleh Mousa Hassan, a 73-year old Dubai-based Lebanese national, was also presented his prize of $1 million ceremonial cheque from Dubai Duty Free officials. Hassan is the seventh person who has won twice in the history of the Dubai Duty Free Millennium Millionaire promotion.

He won his first $1 million in 2012.

Likewise, Imran Shaikh, a 39-year-old Dubai-based Indian national received ownership of his new car, a Porsche 911 Carrera Coupe (Rhodium Silver), which he won in Series 1687 - ticket no. 0206

Luxury car winners
Cem Bogusoglu, a 39-year-old Turkish national based in Geneva, Switzerland won a BMW 750Li xDrive M Sport in Series 1688 with ticket no. 0193. Bogusoglu, who left Dubai six years ago was elated with the news that he finally won his dream car.

Nestor Diego, a Filipino national based in Dubai won a BMW S 1000 XR motorbike in Series 337 with ticket no. 0956.
