Filipinos in Dubai mark 120th Independence Day

The Filipino community in the UAE gathered at the consulate on Tuesday to mark their 120th Independence Day.

 

Consul-General Paul Raymund Cortes led the flag-raising ceremony at the consulate grounds with the leaders and members of the Filipino community.

The Philippines gained its independence on June 12, 1898 after more than three centuries of Spanish colonial rule.
A short ceremony was held after to remember the valiant efforts of the country's heroes who fought for the nation's freedom.

Messages from the President and other Philippine officials were also read during the event.

A grand celebration dedicated to the community will be held at the Dubai World Trade Centre on Friday.
