Innovative beggar caught in Dubai with Dh100,000

Dubai Police recently arrested an Asian beggar and found in his possession Dh100,000.

 

The Asian man who was in his sixties with artificial legs was caught during the first day Eid al-Fitr.

Police spotted the man in Al Qouz area after Dhur prayer.

They seized him, uncovering Dh25 originally, then Dh45,000 in one of his artificial legs. They also recovered money in other denominations. 

The man had come to the UAE on a visit visa one month ago.

The Dubai police have taken the proper legal procedures. The General Directorate of Residency and Foreigners' Affairs was notified regarding the company which had issued the visa to the man.

According to Major General Khalil Ibrahim Al Mansouri, Assistant Commander-in-Chief of Dubai Police for Criminal Investigation Affairs, during the anti-begging campaign, Dubai Police have caught 243 beggars hailing from different nationalities, including 136 men and 107 women.

He said that of the beggars who were arrested, 195 of came on visit visa. Some of them were hired as businessmen and 48 of them had a valid residency.

Al-Mansouri pointed out that the phenomenon of begging is being tackled by the concerned authorities because it harms the civilized appearance of the state. The beggars often use tricks and deceiving methods and allegations to attract and make people sympathise with them by using fraudulent methods. Some beg to amass funds for other crimes such as theft, assault, or otherwise.

He pointed out that the campaign of begging organised by Dubai Police annually before the start of the holy month of Ramadan and continue until the end of Eid al-Fitr of successful campaigns that contributed to reducing the number of beggars annually due to the strict and firm measures taken against beggars and also by taking action against the  companies that bring some of them on visit visas.

He stressed that police officials are combating begging throughout the year.

Teams were assigned to intensify patrols and police of both sexes and the cooperation of a number of competent authorities by the General Directorate of Residency and Foreigners Affairs, the Department of Islamic Affairs, and the Municipality of Dubai and others in order to reduce this phenomenon.
