Lamborghini catches fire in UAE road

A blue Lamborghini caught fire at Wadi Bih in the emirate of Ras Al Khaimah on Saturday morning at 10am, civil defence officials said on Saturday.

While the cause of the fire is yet to be determined, authorities said the flames began for no apparent or superficial reason.

"The flames first started in the engine located at the rear part of the car, and spread to other parts. The blaze quickly engulfed the entire vehicle,” civil defence sources told local media.

RAK Police dispatched firefighters, an ambulance, paramedics and rescue teams to the site, where they managed to put out the fire without any injuries, before cooling down the car to prevent the fire from triggering again.

Following the incident, authorities advised drivers to preserve their cars through maintenance.

"All drivers need to get regular maintenance service done on their cars, particularly in the summer - due to the scorching temperature - to plug any possible fuel or oil leaks, which mostly cause of such fires,” they said.

The case has been referred to concerned bodies to investigate and identify the reason behind the fire.

RAK has seen a number of car fires over the past few years. In 2015, increased fires led police to warn drivers on car servicing to avoid engine fire. They also warned against over-fuelling and revving, which can cause parts to heat up and burst into flames.

Lamborghinis can cost up to approximately $463,000 (AED1.7 million).
