Blue whale game reaches UP, 13-year-old commits suicide with phone in hand

The deadly online game Blue Whale has claimed its first victim in the state of Uttar Pradesh on Sunday.

Parth Singh, a 13-year-old boy was found hanging in his bedroom in Maudaha village of Hamirpur district.

 

According to police, the class sixth student had his father's phone in his hand when the body was taken down. The game which directs the player to commit suicide after 50 challenges was open on the phone.

The family said he had been playing the game from the past few days and they had even asked refrained him from using it. However, he started using his father's mobile phone whenever he was not around or sleeping.

On Sunday evening, Parth was supposed to attend a friend's birthday party but instead locked himself in the room. After he did not open the doors on repeated calls, father Vikram Singh broke the door to find him hanging.

Police are sending IT experts to go through the mobile records and history to probe the role of game.
