Bahraini police investigating Thai woman's fatal fall

The Thai embassy Bahrain said on Friday that police there were investigating the death of a Thai woman who fell from a building, but it had no knowledge of her having been threatened, as her mother claimed.

The statement said police in Manama, the capital, informed the embassy of her fall, but it had no other information. 

 

Consular officials had visited the woman at the hospital she was taken to, and where it was reported she later succumbed to her injuries. 

Bahraini police were investigating the case closely, and would take decisive legal action if any wrongdoing was uncovered, the statement said.

Gulf Digital News reported the 21-year-old woman, identified only as Katnipa, was found lying on a road near an apartment building in Juffair, a suburban area of Manama, on the night of April 20.

The news report quoted a source as saying she lived in the apartment building with three other women and a Bahraini man. 

Online media reported that the woman had told her mother via a chat line app she had been betrayed, felt unsafe and might not be able to return home, and if she died it would be a frame-up. 

The conversation showed that her mother asked for her location, but to no avail. The woman told her mother that she was being taken to work as usual, and she was cornered.She wrote that she wished to be her mother's child again in her next life.

A Facebook user with the name of Suaisri Promvej wrote on Wednesday that the woman was his niece. She went to Bahrain to work and raise money for her family. Her young child lived with her poor parents,...
