'21 St. Petersburg Economic Forum' in the light of the post-pandemic economic crisis

The XXIV International Economic Forum (SPIEF) has come to St. Petersburg. The city lives in the conditions of the signing of trillion-dollar agreements, high-profile negotiations, presentations, activities and continuous networking. But SPIEF is not only about economic results and political agreements. Through the years of its existence, the forum has turned into a special and quite unusual world.

The St. Petersburg International Economic Forum (SPIEF) is a unique event in the world of economics and business. It has been held since 1997, since 2006 it has been conducted under the patronage and with the participation of the President of the Russian Federation. This year the forum is being held amid coronavirus restrictions. The main requirements are quite familiar: masks, social distance. Plus, all the participants, including VIPs, had to pass a PCR test to get admission to the forum.

SPIEF events at Expoforum can be divided into two types. There is an official business program - it includes meetings, panel discussions, press approaches. The fight against coronavirus and the process of vaccination of the population of countries around the world remains a hot topic.

Traditionally, meetings with representatives of the world investment and business community were carried out at the St. Petersburg International Economic Forum.

Of course, the agenda is related to a common challenge faced by all of humanity: it is about the coronavirus pandemic. Therefore, we proposed such a special format with the participation of colleagues from leading pharmaceutical companies. With the support of the Russian Direct Investment Fund the production of the Sputnik V vaccine is organized at the Gamaleya Scientific Center. The Russian vaccine against coronavirus infection is enjoying overwhelming interest from foreign countries. Moreover, the cost of the Russian vaccine in foreign markets is less than $ 20 for two injections (lyophilic form, which can be delivered at a temperature of + 2-8 degrees). Also the vaccine is based on the safe platform of the human adenovirus, which distinguishes it from the chimpanzee adenovirus, which has been little tested.

Over 100 million doses of Sputnik V vaccine per year will be produced in India. Recently they announced an agreement with the leading Indian manufacturer Hetero. As information on Russian drugs becomes available, more and more countries want to buy it. It has also agreed on production with India, Korea, China, Brazil, Argentina. The production in Hungary and Belarus and a number of other countries is under discussion.
According to the general director of the RDIF, the data on the Russian vaccine over 95% efficiency are not invented figures, but statistics. Only 4 vaccines in the world have announced their statistical results, Sputnik V is one of them.

Firstly, indeed, the data on the use of the vaccine in Hungary, Argentina, Mexico, India show that the Russian vaccine is the best in terms of safety and effectiveness. Clinical trials have been conducted in India, in the United Arab Emirates, and thanks to these results, Sputnik V is the second vaccine in the world by the number of countries that have registered it.

And even in countries where there is a disinformation campaign against Sputnik V, such as Germany, more than 60 percent of Germans are ready to be vaccinated with Sputnik V, according to the latest opinion polls.

The Sputnik Light vaccine has also been launched, which showed an efficiency of about 80 percent. This is a one-component vaccine. And just two days ago, data from Argentina confirmed that the vaccine was more than 80 percent effective among the elderly population of Argentina.

The use of the Sputnik V vaccine began on May 18 in Azerbaijan. Vaccination is carried out at the Baku Health Center. Azerbaijan is among the countries that have approved the use of the Russian vaccine. In March 2021, the Azerbaijani Ministry of Health officially approved the Russian Sputnik V vaccine. A month later, an agreement was reached between Baku and Moscow on the supply of more than 100 thousand doses of the drug to the republic. And already in May, Azerbaijan received the first batch.

Russian President Vladimir Putin on Wednesday, June 2, discussed with his Filipino counterpart Rodrigo Duterte the supply of domestic vaccines against coronavirus infection to the republic. It is noted that during the conversation, the leaders confirmed their mutual interest in further building up cooperation in various areas. In particular, they talked about the implementation of projects in the energy, agriculture, transport, humanitarian spheres.
