Light And Easy Breakfast Foods

Somewhere in a film you’ve seen or a novel you’ve read, or perhaps it’s your gran you remember saying: “breakfast is the most important meal of the day!” and the very construction of the word describes the action of breaking the night’s fasting at some point in the morning. Ancient manuscripts record how Roman legionnaires would march until mid-morning before stopping to have a quick breakfast consisting of oatmeal and dried fruit. It is undeniable that our bodies need fuel and though we may not all be marching soldiers a healthy quick meal in the morning really does help to keep energy levels up and getting through a modern-day can be a little easier. Here are five tasty and easy ideas for energy-packed breakfast foods:

Avo on a Toastie

Widely known as the Millennials’ bankrupting breakfast choice, avocado on toast is actually a really great, healthy breakfast. Avos are packed full of healthy fats and nutrients including vitamin E and vitamin K, and make a great filling addition to many dishes. For breakfast, it is super easy to spread some on a cracker or a nice toasty slice of wholewheat or rye bread and voila! Just season with salt and pepper and you are good to go! If you want to get a little more creative then adding some rocket leaves or cherry tomatoes is a great way to amp up a plain avocado toast.

Oatmeal

The varieties available today make it even easier to prepare this versatile food than it was already and whether it’s the quick-cooking crushed oats or the whole-rolled oats, this is a nutritious meal. This incredibly simple grain can be turned from a gruel, barely fit for medieval peasants, to a meal fit for a modern-day king. Try adding some peanut butter, or any butter actually, or some cream instead of milk although coconut cream is excellent for those who prefer the non-dairy approach. Sugar is the common sweetener but can be replaced with maple syrup or stevia and adding some of your favorite fruit will make this plain porridge into something great.

Fruits and Some Veg

Some called it a fad, but for others juicing is how they are able to have a healthy meal with all the benefits of remaining mobile. We so often just don’t have the time to get to all the bits that make up life. Fruits are nature’s energy meals and in such a variety that everyone has a favorite. Try grabbing an apple in the morning, it’s quick, it’s easy and all that fiber is good for your belly too.

Muesli

One way to get all the goodness of a variety of grains is to have a bowl of good-old muesli, some containing only two types of grain where others boast a multitude of ingredients including nuts and dried fruit.

Chia

If you were to take all the wonderful ingredients you could add to oatmeal and instead prepared a bowl of chia seeds to receive those ingredients, you would have a splendid summer breakfast. The simplicity of chia rivals that of oatmeal and its nutritional value is also really good.
