Bollywood's much-awaited mythological film Ramayana: Part 1, starring Ranbir Kapoor, Yash and Sai Pallavi, has made an impressive start at the global box office. Released on November 5, 2026, the film collected approximately ₹127.5 crore worldwide on its opening day. Despite its strong performance, the big-budget production could not surpass the opening numbers of Prabhas' Adipurush. The result has attracted attention because of the enormous expectations surrounding the ambitious cinematic adaptation. The film now faces the challenge of maintaining its momentum during the extended Diwali weekend.
Ramayana Opening Day Box Office Collection
According to early trade figures, Ramayana collected ₹64.85 crore in net earnings across India on its first day. Its domestic gross collection reached approximately ₹77.50 crore, while overseas markets contributed another ₹50 crore. The Hindi version emerged as the biggest contributor, earning ₹47.50 crore, followed by Kannada at ₹7.25 crore and Telugu at ₹6 crore. Tamil and Malayalam versions added ₹2.60 crore and ₹1.50 crore, respectively. The film was released across five languages to reach audiences in different parts of the country.
Why Ramayana Failed to Beat Adipurush
Despite its impressive worldwide opening, Ramayana remained behind the opening-day performance of Adipurush, featuring Prabhas. The earlier mythological film recorded a stronger first-day collection, making it difficult for the latest adaptation to claim the top position. Ramayana also entered theatres with enormous expectations due to its extensive promotions, international release and reported production budget. Its opening performance demonstrates strong audience interest, although it has not achieved the biggest opening record. The coming days will be important in determining its position among major Indian blockbusters.
Ranbir Kapoor, Yash and Sai Pallavi Lead the Epic
Directed by Nitesh Tiwari, Ramayana features Ranbir Kapoor as Lord Rama, Sai Pallavi as Sita and Yash as Ravana. The ensemble cast also includes Sunny Deol as Lord Hanuman and Ravi Dubey as Lakshman. Presented as a two-part cinematic project, the film brings one of India's most celebrated epics to the big screen with large-scale production and visual effects. The second instalment is planned for a Diwali 2028 release. For now, all eyes are on the film's weekend collections and whether positive audience interest can translate into stronger box-office numbers.
