Jashanmal Books Celebrates 100-Year Legacy at Sharjah International Book Fair 2026

Jashanmal Books is highlighting its century-long association with publishing at the 45th Sharjah International Book Fair 2026 by presenting a new title exploring the relationship between India and the UAE. The featured publication, Bridging the Gulf: The Remaking of the India-UAE Relationship, is written by former Indian Ambassador to the UAE Navdeep Suri. The book explores the historical, cultural and diplomatic connections between the two countries. Jashanmal is showcasing the publication at its exhibition space in Hall 6 at Expo Centre Sharjah. The initiative reflects the company's longstanding contribution to the regional book industry.

A Century of Jashanmal Books and Publishing History

Jashanmal's journey in the book business began in 1919 when Rao Sahib Jashanmal established the group's first store in Basra. Books, newspapers and stationery were among the original products offered to customers. Over the following decades, the business expanded across the Gulf while maintaining its connection with publishing and literature. Today, Jashanmal Books operates independently, distributing publications across different genres and age groups. Its participation in the Sharjah event celebrates more than a century of bringing books and knowledge to readers.

New Book Explores the India-UAE Relationship

Written using historical research, archival material and interviews, Bridging the Gulf examines the development of India-UAE relations over several centuries. Navdeep Suri draws on his experience as India's Ambassador to the UAE between 2016 and 2019 to explain important diplomatic developments. The publication also explores traditional trade connections, the historical role of the Indian rupee, gold commerce and cultural exchanges across the Arabian Sea. It highlights how these longstanding connections helped shape the modern partnership between both nations. The book also considers the importance of the Indian community living in the UAE.

Book Launch Scheduled at Sharjah International Book Fair

The official launch of Bridging the Gulf is scheduled for November 7, 2026, at 4:30 pm at Al Fikr Hall, Expo Centre Sharjah. Following its presentation at the fair, Jashanmal Books will continue making the publication available through major bookstores and its distribution channels across the UAE. The 45th Sharjah International Book Fair runs from November 4 to 15, bringing together publishers, authors and readers from around the world. Jashanmal's participation connects its publishing heritage with a book that explores the historic relationship between India and the Gulf region.
