6 Scrumptious Breakfast Ideas for Busy Mornings

Breakfast is my fuel, my instant energy booster. It is what brings a fitting end to my night-long fast. I might just turn poetic if I were to go on about how important breakfast is for one's well-being, besides helping in maintaining an ideal weight and never letting that waist size get bigger.

Various studies show that breakfast helps in restoring glucose levels, an essential carbohydrate required for our brain functions. Many of us tend to ignore and completely skip this important meal in a hurry to get to office or meet other schedules, forgetting how critical having breakfast is, as it provides us energy to get through the rest of the day.

Experts agree that skipping breakfast doesn't help in weight loss at all because when you skip breakfast, the message your body gets is that it needs to conserve energy rather than burn any incoming calories.

Breakfast kick starts your metabolism, so eating food sets in motion a variety of biological processes associated with digestion and storage of nutrients, which result in increased energy expenditure known as diet induced thermogenesis (DIT).

New evidence from a group of researchers, published in the American Journal of Clinical Nutrition, found that those who ate breakfast used more energy through physical activity
(in particular during the morning), than those who were fasting. So, it could be said that skipping breakfast makes people feel less energetic as they reduce their levels of physical activity without consciously realising it. Skipping breakfast has also shown to increase postprandial hyperglycemia (high blood sugar following a meal) in people with type 2 diabetes. Ideally, breakfast should supply approximately one-fourth of your daily calories. The number of calories you need daily depends on several factors such as your age, gender and activity level.

Stressing on the calorie intake and health quotient required during morning hours, here is a list of six super yummy and easy to cook items that you can rustle up on a rush-rush morning. Instead of leaving home on an empty stomach, you'll feel satisfied and energised with these simple dishes. Get ready to make the most of your day!

1. Quinoa Pancakes

If you're not sure what to do with leftover quinoa, whip up a batch of fluffy pancakes. This creative twist on the breakfast classic offers more folate, protein and fiber than traditional recipes. Top your pancakes with some fresh berries, preserves or pure maple syrup. You can also make a large batch and freeze it and then quickly reheat for breakfast during the week.

2. French Toast and Musk Melon Salad

A lovely breakfast option for egg lovers, it is delicious as well as nutritious. Sure, melons are great raw as snacks and make lovely desserts, but I like this summer fruit even better in savoury, spicy salads and when combined with sweet French toast, it is irresistible.
