Male nationals and residents in Oman will be able to apply for an automatic transmission driving permit beginning from January 2019, reported Time of Oman.
Director General of Traffic, Brig. Eng. Mohammed container Awadh Al Rawas said, that "everybody who needs to get a driver's permit will be permitted a decision between automatic or manual transmission," according TimesofOman.
Brig. Al Rawas said in an announcement in January 2018, "This mechanism will be implemented as of January 1, 2019. This depended on an investigation led by the General Directorate of Traffic and incorporated every single driving instructors in all governorates of the Sultanate."
Brig. Al Rawas said, "The examination review affirmed that most driving teachers are looking forward to this change and we will give them a period of time to adjust their circumstance amid the year 2018."
He added, "The decision was in light of the requests of instructors and drivers and individuals from the network to allow teaching and testing on automatic transmission cars, for men and women, while likewise allowing the individuals who wish to learn or test on the normal transmission to do so."
Starting at now, just women are allowe to step through driving exams in automatic transmission cars.
