Google Is Fixing Pixel Phones In Houston For Free

Google is teaming up with an electronics repair company to come to the aid of Pixel owners affected by Hurricane Harvey's destruction, offering free repairs to the Google-branded smartphone.

Google has partnered with uBreakiFix to offer free repairs in seven locations in the Houston area. The free repair program will be in effect until September 30. Google's Pixel and Pixel XL smartphone are impressive devices, but lack features like water resistance found in more recent devices like the Samsung Galaxy S8. With the deluge brought down by Hurricane Harvey, it's likely more than a few phones suffered from water damage.

Replacing the Google Pixel's screen or LCD panel would usually cost $129.99 if you took it to uBreakiFix for a repair. A replacement battery or a repair to the phone's USB-C charge port would cost $79.99.

The Pixel-repairing team-up is restricted to these seven stores in the Houston area:

  • The Heights
  • Rice Village
  • Pearland
  • Pasadena
  • West Chase
  • Sugar Land
  • Webster

The Houston-area partnership helps if you've got your Pixel phone in hand for quick repairs. Meanwhile, those who sent in devices like laptops for repair to companies like Apple may have to wait a bit longer to get them back.

The hazardous weather caused by both Hurricane Harvey and Hurricane Irma have delayed shipments and closed repair facilities for manufacturers like Apple and Samsung, with shipping companies like USPS and FedEx delaying shipments throughout the Houston, Florida, and Georgia area. Customers waiting for repaired laptops have been informed by Apple of the delays due to the shipping delays.

Good on Google for offering localized support during a time of crisis. Now, if only they could boost the battery life of the phone during an emergency.
