3 doctors on trial after 'botched treatment' kills 8-year-old child in Dubai

Three doctors, accused of a botched treatment that resulted in the death of a child are currently on trial. Dubai's public prosecution referred their case to the criminal court.

Prosecution found that the doctors did not give the child - who was in a coma for three years - proper medication which resulted in the deterioration of the patient's condition. A report from the Health Department supported these findings.

According to an Emarat Al Youm report, the parents said that their child suffered constant headaches. After visiting different clinics, they decided to take him to a public hospital, where the child admitted to the intensive care unit back in 2014.

The 8-year-old boy was diagnosed with meningitis after several medical examinations. The father noticed yellow stains, which looked like blood on the child's bed. When he asked the nurse what it was, she said that it was normal and he shouldn't be worried.

The father added that the doctor visited them hours later to show him the test results. The doctor recommended that the child be brought to an isolated room after findings revealed that his condition was worsening. There was another doctor in the room but he left without examining the boy.

One of the doctors gave the patient some medicine which made him scream. he also suffered from some cramps. Fourteen hours later, the patient was shifted to the ICU. In the morning, doctors gave the child some painkillers. Two days later, the child's condition further deteriorated. Parents noticed the absence of doctors as well as lack of proper treatment during this time.

A neurologist checked the child finding his heartbeat and blood pressure had increased dramatically. Anesthesiologists tried to help the child by performing CPR. After a while, the parents were told that the child is in state of coma and he is clinically dead.

The father filed a complaint with the hospital administration, then the Health department, and later went to the Public Prosecution.

Two doctors said that they provided the child with the suitable medications, and his condition was highly critical. The third doctor could not be found and is currently at large.
