Abu Dhabi Securities Exchange Experiences Tremendous Listing Demand Over Five Years

The ADX is successfully drawing more retail and international investors into the market.

Abu Dhabi has seen incredible sustained demand from companies looking to list. This growth spans the past five years of focused economic development. The ADX is now one of the larger listing venues globally. It attracts thousands of retail and international investors to the active market.

The exchange currently sits among the world’s top 20 stock markets. It houses prominent companies worth approximately Dh2.9 trillion in market capitalization. Matthias Büchler is the Chief Strategy Officer at the Abu Dhabi Securities Exchange. He noted that seamless onboarding makes the market highly attractive.

Investor participation continues to grow at a very rapid pace this year.

The ADX successfully onboarded another 30,000 new individual investors this year. Büchler reported that 97% of the index recovered following recent regional disruptions. Furthermore, 55% of listed companies actually increased their baseline share prices. The first half of the year showed massive trading volume.

The exchange recorded an impressive Dh171 billion in total trading value. Institutions accounted for 78% of that specific trading value. International investors drove 48% of the total volume. Foreign investors also represented 77% of all new market registrations.

The exchange is now aggressively exploring tokenization and artificial intelligence.

Recent regional geopolitical tensions severely tested market infrastructure across the Middle East. However, the ADX spent several years upgrading its core digital systems beforehand. They separated their post-trade business into a distinct legal entity for safety.

The next phase of the strategy centers on increasing overall market liquidity. They want to expand the number of financial products available to investors. They recently launched a sandbox to develop advanced digital wallet capabilities.
