AURAK Holds Honors Convocation 2018

The American University of Ras Al Khaimah (AURAK) held its Honors Convocation 2018 Student Recognition Award Ceremony to reward high achieving students for excelling in academics and athletics for the 2017 – 2018 school year.

 

The hosts for the convocation were AURAK students, Sana Sy and Eilaf Mubarak Al Binjawi.  It began with a beautiful recitation of the Holy Qur’an from Masood Hafiz AbdusSakur, third place winner of the International Award for the Holy Qur’an and Al Sunnah.  Vice President of Academic Affairs and Student Success and Provost, Prof. Stephen Wilhite, welcomed students, families, friends, faculty, and staff to the convocation.  In his speech he thanked everyone for attending, commended the students for their hard work, and acknowledged deans, faculty, staff, family, and friends alike for the support they gave throughout the year.  He also reminded students of the expectations AURAK will maintain for them and the importance of nurturing future students of AURAK long after they graduate.

Prof. Stephen and Dr. Sahar Idwan, the Associate Dean of Engineering, handed out awards to excelling students from the schools of Graduate Studies, Engineering, and Business. Interim Dean of the School of Arts and Sciences, Associate Prof. Mustafa Merabet joined Prof. Wilhite, in presenting students from Arts and Sciences with their awards. Prof. Steven Zani, Dean of Student Support Services, Awarded the International Achievement Award to AeshaAadelAlsaadi. Finally, Dr. Lee Waller, Dean of Students Services and Enrollment, thankedand acknowledged the Student Government Association, AURAK Ambassadors, and various clubs, and helped in presenting the awards affiliated with sports.

The evening concluded with a group picture and a leisurely dinner.

Prof. Wilhite was delighted with the convocation, “It was a great pleasure for me to participate in my first Academic Honors Convocation.  I enjoyed meeting so many highly motivated students who take such pride in their academic work.  I was also pleased to see so many family members and friends present at the event to support their students.  Their presence made the event a true celebration.”

The American University of Ras Al Khaimah, United Arab of Emirates (UAE) is a government-owned institution of higher education which provides an integrated North American-style education. It is accredited by the Ministry of Higher Education and Scientific Research in UAE and offers a total of twenty-two undergraduate and graduate programs across a wide range of disciplines. The Southern Association of Colleges and Schools Commission on Colleges (SACSCOC) awarded the institution candidacy status in July 2017.
