Child pleads in UAE court 'I am an orphan without my father'

A Fujairah court session was interrupted by a weeping child on Tuesday.

The head of the session, Counselor Mohammed Ahmed Buhindi, had been holding court when the five-year-old ran up to the bench.

The judge had been about to question his father along with two others accused of brawling, as related by a local media source.

He leaned over the platform to hear the child's plea, asking him gently what was the matter.

The child replied that his father was held in custody, but that he was innocent since he is "a good man who does not fight".

The judge inquired, "What do you want, son?" The child replied, "Please let him be with us during Ramadan and Eid. Without him we are orphaned."

After squeezing the child's hand, the judge motioned for the mother to take him back to his seat.

The case was postponed for the verdict next Monday.

The suspects had been arrested last month for being in a brawl which injured several people.
