Dubai Frame declared winner at Structural Awards 2018

The Dubai Frame grabbed the award for Tall or Slender Structures at The Structural Awards 2018. A giant picture frame, the landmark lets residents enjoy a 360-degree view of the city.

Arcadis Consulting Middle East Ltd was awarded at the ceremony held in London. The Institution of Structural Engineers announced the winners of The Structural Awards 2018 during a glittering awards ceremony at The Brewery, London.

Standing tall in Dubai's Zabeel Park, the Dh260 million project tells the story of the past, present and future of Dubai. The two 150-meter high transparent glass towers are connected by a 93-meter bridge where visitors can get a 360-degree view of the city: the North shows the landmarks of old Dubai, including Deira, Umm Hurair and Karama, while the South portrays the modern shopping malls, Sheikh Zayed Road skyscrapers and Burj Khalifa.

The golden structure is expected to attract two million visitors a year.

The winners were chosen from a shortlist of 53 pioneering global projects, celebrating the ingenuity and expertise of the engineers behind them.

A diverse range of structures, from beautifully crafted sports stadia to sparkling glass staircases, were recognised across 14 categories. This year's entries perfectly underlined the creativity of structural engineers, with the winning projects showcasing cutting edge examples of innovative engineering solutions.

Tamina Canyon Crossing in Bad Ragaz, Canton St. Gallen, Switzerland received the Supreme Award for Structural Engineering Excellence. This hotly-contested accolade is presented to the year's finest example of structural engineering design.
