Dubai Police has reportedly started training officers to use a flying motorbike that was first showcased at the tech exhibition GITEX in 2017.

According to CNN, California-based startup Hoversurf has gifted its first S3 2019 Hoverbike to the Dubai force.

The electric vertical take-off and landing (eVTOL) vehicle is being tested by officers with an aim to put them into action by 2020, CNN quoted Brigadier Khalid Nasser Alrazooqi, general director of Dubai Police's artificial intelligence department, as saying.

"Currently we have two crews already training (to pilot the hoverbike) and we're increasing the number," he told CNN.

Hoversurf chief operating officer Joseph Segura-Conn said Dubai Police have exclusive rights to order as many units as they want, adding: "They're going to let us know in the next month or two if they'd like any more... If they would like 30 or 40, we'll make it happen for them."

Orders for the $150,000 vehicle are also open for civilians, after meeting Federal Aviation Administration guidelines which means you do not need a pilot's licence to fly it.

CNN also reported that Dubai is being considered as one of three possible locations for a manufacturing site for the S3 2019, with Segura-Conn saying Hoversurf is in talks "with three companies in different locations around the world".
