Seychelles Focuses On High Value Tourism Growth From GCC Nations

The Seychelles Tourism Board is placing the GCC at the center of its new strategy. They are aiming for sustainable, high-value tourism growth at the Arabian Travel Market 2026. The strategy shifts focus from pure volume to attracting high-value international visitors. They want guests who stay longer and contribute more widely to the local economy. Approximately sixty percent of international visitors reach Seychelles through Gulf aviation hubs.

A New Partnership With Emirates Airlines

The destination’s ATM participation features plans to sign a Memorandum of Understanding with Emirates. This agreement builds on a longstanding strategic partnership between the two entities. It strengthens Dubai’s crucial role as a primary gateway to the beautiful islands. Vesna Rakic, Chief Executive Officer of the Seychelles Tourism Board, discussed the strategy. She stated the GCC is central to the future of Seychelles tourism.

Emirates currently operates fourteen flights a week between Dubai and Mahé. Air Seychelles also operates a daily service directly from Abu Dhabi. Qatar Airways recently resumed four weekly services through Doha in June 2026. These routes give travelers across the GCC highly convenient access to the archipelago. The UAE continues to grow as an important source market in its own right.

Promoting A Richer Island Experience

Seychelles welcomed nearly 21,000 visitors from the UAE in 2025, showing steady growth. The destination appeals to families and luxury travelers seeking privacy and personalized experiences. Seychelles is broadening its international positioning beyond traditional luxury beach escapes. Visitors are encouraged to explore Mahé, discover Victoria, and experience local Creole culture. The islands offer hiking trails, nature reserves, and unique community interactions.

Tourism earnings rose by approximately 29 percent to roughly $1.196 billion in 2025. This growth highlights the economic potential of attracting travelers who stay longer. Sustainability remains absolutely fundamental to this long-term ambition for the island nation. Future development will continue prioritizing the protection of marine ecosystems and biodiversity. New hospitality investments will also expand choices for international visitors soon.
