UAE public sector holiday announced for Eid Al Adha

The UAE’s public sector workers will get a week’s holiday for Eid Al Adha this year, following directives of the UAE Cabinet.

Ministries, and federal department workers will start their Eid Al Adha break on Sunday, August 19, lasting until August 23rd, with official work resuming on Sunday, August 26.

Holidays for the private sector have not yet been declared.

The cabinet's announcement came after the Saudi Supreme Court said the Islamic month of Dhul Hijjah would begin on August 12, meaning Eid Al Adha will fall on August 21.

The court announced the start of the final month of the Islamic calendar after witnesses testified to seeing the crescent moon at sunset on Saturday. Accordingly, Arafat Day, the 9th day of Dhul Hijjah, will fall August 20, and Eid Al Adha begins the next day.
