Motorists that suddenly change lanes, do not use their indicators and refuse to check oncoming traffic with their side mirrors will now have to think twice if they want to avoid a traffic fine.
Sharjah Police announced that it will slap a Dh400 fine on motorists who violate the UAE’s revised traffic law, which states that “drivers who fail to use signal lights while changing the vehicle direction or making turns will be penalised.”

According to the UAE’s amended federal traffic law, sudden swerving carries a fine of Dh1,000, while not using indicators will carry a Dh400 fine.
The traffic violation is not only a hazard to other motorists, but is also the main cause of accidents on the roads.
The amended law also includes a Dh1,000 fine for jumping a red signal, as well as for praying on the side of the road.
Maj. Gen. Abdul Rahman Khater, Director of the Media and Awareness Department at Sharjah Police, said that with the coordination of government departments, in addition to Indian and Pakistani associations, brochures will be distributed throughout the emirate to educate drivers on the UAE’s traffic rules and regulations.

Maj. Gen. Khater said that the department is carrying out an awareness campaign under the slogan “Follow your Lane”, and is part of the Ministry of Interior’s strategy to ensure safer roads across the UAE.
