Hurricane Harvey: Two Indian Students Critical After Almost Drowning In Lake

Two Indians, Shalini, and Nikhil Bhatia, both in their 20s and students of Texas A&M University have been reported critical after they almost drowned in Lake Bryan in Texas where they had gone swimming and had to be rescued by a police officer. The lake is experiencing “catastrophic” floods and rains after the destruction created by Hurricane Harvey. Five lives have been claimed by this weather calamity

According to the Bryan police, a person called for help from an officer patrolling the lake when he saw two people swimming in the lake almost drowning. The police informed that the person had managed to save one of the people in distress while the officer saved the other and assisted them with CPR till medical help arrived. They were rushed to the CHI St. Joseph Hospital and are still in a critical condition.

It is still a mystery as to why they would be swimming in such severe weather conditions. The students are being closely watched by the Indian Consul-General in Houston.

Another 200 Indian students are stuck at the University of Houston and are being evacuated to safer spots, reported the authorities.
