Stephen Paddock, the 64-year-old who killed 58 people in the deadliest mass shooting in US history may have planned to flee the scene. Police have also not ruled out the possibility of other people being involved in the attack due to the way the entire shooting was planned.
Sheriff Joe Lombardo told reporters that Paddock was very secretive and the information that the police have gathered from those who knew him points to the fact that Paddock was a recluse and never good friends with anyone.
Paddock’s girlfriend, who returned from the Philippines to clear her name from the case said that she had no idea that he was plotting a massacre of such a large scale. No one has been able to conclude as to why Paddock opened fire at the concertgoers.
The gunman was found dead in his Mandalay Bay room when he shot himself dead after injuring over 500 people. Police found two shattered windows on the 32nd floor of the Mandalay Bay Hotel and Casino where Paddock was staying.
Sheriff Lombardo was asked by reporters if there were signs that Paddock was trying to flee the attack and he responded positively but stopped short of giving more details. He also added that the police are assuming that he may have had help from other people at some point, either in the preparation or the execution of the attack.
Aaron Rouse from the FBI said that no terrorist links to Paddock have shown up, but they are not ruling out the possibility.
