US-Russia: The US To Respond To Russia’s Expulsion By September 1st

According to US Secretary of State Rex Tillerson’s statement on Monday, Russia is set to expel hundreds of American diplomats, but the Trump administration is still pondering over the appropriate response for this, but they plan to respond to Moscow by September 1st.

After the meeting with Russia’s top diplomats in the Philippines, Tillerson had asked for clarifications on the Kremlin response to the new sanctions passed by Congress, signed by President Donald Trump; that was announced last month. Trump administration is trying to be tactical about the response, given the US diplomatic presence in Russia and the shaky-relationship between the two nuclear powers.

There is a lot to tackle before the US-Russia relationship starts to function normally. The biggest crisis at hand has been around the new US sanctions, Russia's retaliation by expelling diplomats, and the ongoing US investigation into Russia's alleged election meddling.

According to Trump's administration, US has an array of good reasons to have a productive relationship. However, they are considering providing lethal weaponry to Ukraine to be able to defend itself against Russian aggression.
