10-Yr-Old Girl left for dead after being hit by driver who didn’t stop

Police are appealing for a hit-and-run driver to come forward after a 10-year-old girl was knocked over by a car.

Isabella Jones Cave was spotted on CCTV footage darting across the road to meet a friend at around 4.45pm on March 11. A silvery-blue Peugeot then clips her with its wing mirror, sending her sprawling onto the pavement – but does not stop to check if she is okay.

Fortunately the schoolgirl was not seriously harmed and only suffered bruises and cuts as a result of the incident.

Her mother Sarah Jones said: ‘Isabella does have a lot of road sense, but she got that excited to see her friend she didn’t stop for that split-second. ‘She’s got cuts and bruises but she’s lucky to be here. I’m so thankful. It is a massive shock and there is a bit of anger in me – why didn’t they stop? ‘They must have had a reason. Clearly Isabella wasn’t OK. All it would have taken was for them to turn around and ask is she alright and that would be that – it could have been so much different.

‘People treat the roads round here like its a racetrack. They are busy roads, especially at that time when children are coming home from school. ‘Drivers need to know if they hit anyone, no matter how minor, they need to stop.

‘It is a massive lesson learned and the main thing is she is still here to learn it. She was very lucky, but it has frightened her and shaken her up.’ Police are now investigating the incident, which took place on Mow Cop Road, Mow Cop, in Stoke-on-Trent. Anyone who may recognise the vehicle or caught the registration is urged to get in touch.

A Staffordshire Police spokesman said: ‘We received a report about a road traffic collision involving a 10-year-old girl and a silver/blue Peugeot in Mow Cop Road near the shops. ‘Anyone who has any information, or who recognises the car in the CCTV images, is asked to call us.’ Witnesses should call Staffordshire Police on 101 quoting incident number 120 of March 12.
