Mishap averted as Air India aircraft hits parked cooling unit at Delhi's IGI airport

A mishap was averted as an Air India aircraft hit a parked ground cooling unit on Friday night while the flight was taxing. No injuries were reported.

Airport officials said the incident took place at around 10pm on Friday night when the Air India flight AI 820 was taxing. "During taxing into the bay, the number 1 engine outboard side hit into a parked ground cool unit at bay C33."

The ground cooling units are generally used to maintain temperatures inside the aircraft.

An Air India spokesperson said the matter was being investigated. "Air India management has constituted a two-member high level committee to investigate the incident. The committee is required to submit its report within 7 days," the AI Spokesperson said.

A similar incident occurred last month when one of the wings of an Ethiopian Airlines aircraft hit a parked Air India aircraft at Bay no. 87 while the plane was being pushed back.
