10 Indians Die Everyday While Building Skyscrapers In Gulf Countries

Based on the analysis of RTI responses, a study has revealed that close to 10 workers from India died every day in Gulf countries in the last six years, PTI reported.

This means for every one billion US dollar that has was sent to India from gulf countries cost the lives of 117 people. Miserable working conditions, ill health and searing temperatures have been cited as the most common reason behind the deaths of Indian workers in Bahrain, Oman, Qatar, Kuwait, Saudi Arabia and the UAE.

About 10,000 people migrate to the Gulf states every year from Telangana, and about 200 on average from Kalleda, according to government figures, Reuters reported.

The alarming figures were brought to light on the requisition of data by Venkatesh Nayak from Commonwealth Human Rights Initiative (CHRI) between 2012 and mid-2018. The Indian missions in  Bahrain, Oman, Qatar and Saudi Arabia provided the data though, the UAE embassy refused to give information.

India received a total of USD 410.33 billion in remittances from all around the world. The remittance from the Gulf countries amounted to USD 209.07 billion which means that Indian working in the gulf accounted for more than half of the remittance that India received from all over the world between 2012 and 2017.
