5.4 Magnitude Earthquake Hits Port Blair

According to the United States Geological Survey (USGS), an earthquake at 5.4 magnitude on the Richter scale was experienced in the Andaman Sea. A 162 kilometers south-west region of Port Blair was hit by the quake.

However, a 5.4-magnitude earthquake is reckoned moderate as at least 6 magnitude on the Richter Scale is considered strong enough. Though the Andaman and Nicobar islands come under the "Very Severe Intensity" seismic zone, ranking fifth in a rubric set by the Bureau of Indian Standards.
