After heavy rains overnight, Bengalureans wake up to flooded streets

Bengalureans woke up to flooded roads and parking lots, power cuts and other rain related fury on Independence Day on Tuesday.
Heavy and continued showers that lashed the city on the intervening night of Monday and Tuesday has resulted in waterlogging in many areas, especially in southern and eastern parts.

Residents are struggling to get the muddy waters out of their houses and they are furious about officials from the civic body not responding to their calls. In ST Bed area of Koramangala, fire department has pressed rescue boats into action as many roads are submerged in waters up to 4 feet. In Jalakanteshwaranagar of Wilson Garden, rain waters entered into more than 50 houses. Independence Day celebrations in many parts of the city have been hampered due to rain fury.

The rains which started around 10 pm on Monday night continued till early morning on Tuesday. According to Meteorological centre, Bengaluru, the city received 12.8 centimetre rains till Tuesday morning and in HAL Airport region recorded 14.3 cms rainfall. Karnataka State Natural Disaster Monitoring Centre (KSNDMC) recorded the highest rainfall at Bilekahalli, off Banerghatta Road, which received a rainfall of 18 cms.
