Bank unions to go on strike on Aug 22

Banks will remain shut on August 22 as 10L employees go on strike against privatization of public sector banks.

The All India Bank Employees Association (AIBEA), a consortium of nine unions and employees of public as well as private banks, said a massive rally would follow on September 15.

Sometime in October-November, a two-day strike will be held, said AIBEA general secretary CH Venkatachalam.

The list of demands

Apart from privatization, employees are protesting merger and consolidation of banks, and non-performing assets not being written off. They want willful loan defaults to be termed criminal offence, as well as implementation of the Parliamentary Committee recommendations on recovery of NPAs.
