Mangaluru city police registered a suo motu case against a youth who harassed city girl Rashmi Shetty. Walking from Aloysius Degree College to Balmatta, Rashmi was followed by the youngster on his scooter, last Sunday afternoon.
Rashmi, 22, who is pursuing MA in Buddhist Studies, Philosophy and Comparative Religions in Bihar, wrote her entire ordeal on Facebook.
Her scathing post to her harasser, which divulges his vehicle's number plate, has since gone viral. Rashmi starts by addressing her harasser: "KA 19 EU 0932, You thought I'd be scared, didn't you? You thought I'd be ashamed, didn't you? I was followed by the guy who this scooter belongs to today in broad daylight.... Well, guess what? I take my side. These streets are as much mine as they are of undeserving ... like you.
You or a hundred like you will not scare me into staying home and not being free. This is a message from all strong girls to you and your likes: if you try curtailing our freedom, we will fight back.And we will knock you down...." is her warning.
"Acting on screenshots of her posts going viral, Mangaluru City Police registered a suo motu cases against the youngster who was riding a scooter and had teased Shetty," K M Shantaraju, DCP (Law and Order) told TOI. He said the youth has been booked under IPC 354(d) and 509. A case was registered at Mangaluru Women's Police Station.
