Indian Air Force Helicopter Crashes In Arunachal Pradesh

An Indian Air Force Mi-17 V5 helicopter crashed this morning in Chuna, Arunachal Pradesh. 5 people are feared to have lost their lives in the crash. All the passengers on board were Air Force personnel. Another passenger is believed to be injured badly. The accident took place in a hilly region which is around 12 km from the India-China border at 6 am.

 

The helicopter had taken off from the Tawang region and was carrying out a routine air maintenance mission.

The cause of the accident is not yet known and the Indian Air Force has ordered an investigation into the crash. The crash is sure to dampen spirits as the department gets ready to celebrate its 85th Air Force Day on Sunday.

The Mi-17 V5 was used for flood relief operations in Gujarat and Rajasthan. It is a Russian-made helicopter which is mostly used for relief operations, mostly floods.
