As rains continuing to lash Kashmir Valley on Thursday, officials in the area have sounded a flood alert with people living in low lying areas being asked to remain extra vigilant.
The Valley has seen incessant rain and snowfall since Wednesday morning with the water level in Jhelum reaching the alert point of 18 feet at the Sangam point.
According to a communication issued by the flood control department, people living in low lying areas which are along the embankments of river Jhelum have been advised to be cautious.
The J&K police has set up control rooms so that people in trouble can be helped. The MET Department has said that the weather is likely to improve from tomorrow.
Meanwhile the heavy rains have already inundated many low-lying residential colonies with the city of Srinagar is also facing severe a water logging problem.
The weather, which has affected normal life in the Valley, has already forced schools and colleges to remains shut until the end of this week.
