Odisha: Two More Reported Dead Due To H1N1

Influenza A (H1N1) proved to be fatal for two more people in Bhubaneswar taking the total number of deaths in the state to three as of today. The total number of people tested positive for the deadly virus has risen to 59 after 13 more cases tested positive.

A 42-year-old woman was the latest victim to succumb to the deadly virus when she passed away at the SCB Medical College and Hospital in Cuttack. She was undergoing treatment at a private hospital on August 5th and was later shifted to SCB as her condition deteriorated drastically on Monday, according to officials at the hospital.

According to government officials, in another case of swine flu, a 48 year-old-woman who was undergoing treatment against the virus at a private hospital since 29th July passed away. Her family decided to shift her to another hospital even though the doctors had advised against it. This news comes just 3 days after a 53 year-old-man had reportedly died of swine flu.

Bikash Patnaik who works as a nodal officer at the integrated diseases surveillance cell earlier confirmed that there were 38 patients admitted to hospitals in Bhubaneswar and Cuttack. According to Patnaik, 15 of these cases were from Bhubaneswar and swab samples of 230 patients had already been tested at the Regional Medical Research Center this year alone. J K Tripathy, Director Public Health, had earlier said that the spread of the disease can be controlled through awareness and early diagnosis. According to Tripathy, both public and private hospitals have already been informed of the guidelines to follow along with continuous review and monitoring of those affected.
