Yet to establish boy death link with Blue Whale: Cops

Police are yet to ascertain if the death of Ankan De, a Class-X student of Keshpur, has any link with the Blue Whale internet challenge. A police team led by additional SP of West Midnapore, Sachin Makkar, visited the house of Ankan at Anandapur in Keshpur, about 40 km from West Midnapore, on Sunday and also seized the computer, which was used by Ankan, from his father's shop.

The police are interrogating three friends of Ankan to get an idea about his behaviour and unveil the mystery involved. The three were questioned several times since Saturday night. Ankan's last rites were performed on Saturday night after the autopsy.

A student of Anandapur High School, Ankan used to play cricket. But for the past few months he was not showing much interest in the game, one of his friends reportedly said. He would frequent his father's shop to play computer games, his friends told police. "They also told us that Ankan was addicted to internet games," said police.

The electronic goods shop of his father Gopinath De is located close to their house and Ankan often visited the shop. "He visited the shop for some time on Saturday too. His father said that he had seen Ankan using the internet when he last saw him. De also runs a cable television business in the area," said police.
SP of West Mindapore, Bharati Ghosh, said that they are yet to confirm if the death had any connection with the Blue Whale internet challenge. Police said some blood stains were seen in the plastic bag with which Ankan's face was covered. He was found hanging from the ceiling of his bathroom with a nylon wire. The plastic bag and wire are used in wrapping electronics goods sold from his father's shop. Ankan did not attend school on Saturday and had asked her mother to prepare the lunch, as he went to take bath, said a source.
