Dubai’s best cheap bars and drinks

5 Joker Sports Lounge
Found at the Signature Hotel in Al Barsha, this sports bar is easy-going, colourful and bright – and simple yet effective. Catch the game and get some outstandingly affordable drinks while you’re at it, with pints of hops available for Dhs35, and Dhs30 for bottles.
Open daily noon-3am. Signature Hotel, Al Barsha (04 399 9944).

6  Kickers
This place is super laid-back. Found in sports city, surrounded by football pitches, the cricket stadium and more, Kickers is unsurprisingly full of sports fans and players pretty much round-the-clock. There are tonnes of bar sports (think foosball and pool tables and plenty of typical pub-based games) to keep you occupied, TVs on the walls and bottles of hops available for just Dhs33. Bargainous.
Open Sun-Wed 3pm-2am; Thu-Sat noon-2am. Football Zone, Sports Village, Dubai Sports City (04 448 1001).

7 The Irish Village
It’s our Pub of the Year, and this long-standing Irish haunt on the banks of Dubai Creek serves up a cracking price for a pint of hops or the black stuff – it’s just Dhs36. Match it with a huge, sprawling and lush garden, and you might just have found yourself the perfect day in the Dubai sun. There’s a cracking line-up of bands and acts that stroll into town and onto the stage with impressive regularity, so when the sun goes down you’ll be able to feast your eyes and ears on some great live music too.
Open Sun-Thu 11am-1am; Fri-Sat 11am-2am. Garhoud (04 239 5000).

8 The Stables
As the name might suggest, this bar is decked out with horse racing paraphernalia and shows the big events, too. This spacious, almost cavernous bar joins Rodeo Drive and popular pub Fibber Magee’s on Sheikh Zayed Road – and serves up bottles of hops for Dhs35 outside of happy hour. Halve that during happy hour, which runs daily from 4pm until 8pm, and you’ll be in for a bargain.
Open daily noon-3am. Sheikh Zayed Road, near Radisson Royal Hotel (04 342 5571).

9 UBK
While it might technically classify as more of a happy hour, the happy hour at UBK prides itself on being “Dubai’s first happy hour every hour”. A select number of drinks (hops included) are available for just Dhs28 all day long, and there’s an even happier happy hour for the post-brunch crowd every Friday where you can get drinks from just Dhs22 between 4pm and 7pm, and again from 11pm until 1am. There’s pool, live music, sport, pub quizzes and more going on at this cool spot in JLT.
Open daily noon-3am. Mövenpick Hotel Dubai Jumeirah Lakes Towers, Cluster A, JLT (04 438 0000).
