An Abu Dhabi couple has found a unique way to combine entrepreneurship with animal welfare by using their car repair business to support stray cat rescue efforts. Salim Gouasmia and Natalia Sobko established KoolKats, a garage in Musaffah, with a mission that goes beyond repairing vehicles. Their business helps fund the care and rescue of abandoned and injured cats across the neighbourhood. So far, the couple has rescued more than 52 cats, providing veterinary treatment, food and safer surroundings for animals in need.
A Business Built Around a Meaningful Mission
The idea developed from the couple's shared passion for helping stray animals. Salim wanted to establish a car repair business offering honest services and reasonable prices, while Natalia insisted that the venture should also support a meaningful cause. They agreed to dedicate part of the garage's earnings to a permanent cat welfare programme. The initiative also supports local rescuers and helps cover veterinary expenses for cats requiring medical attention. Their approach has turned an ordinary garage into a business with a strong community purpose.
More Than 52 Cats Rescued in Abu Dhabi
The couple's rescue journey began during evening walks around Reem Island, where they regularly encountered abandoned cats. Over time, they became involved in trapping, neutering and returning stray cats to safer locations. Their efforts later expanded to Musaffah, where they have rescued more than 52 cats. One rescued cat, named Koolie, has become a permanent resident of the garage. After receiving veterinary care, vaccinations and treatment, she now has a safe place to live inside the facility.
Affordable Car Repairs and Animal Welfare Together
Despite its animal-friendly mission, KoolKats continues to focus on providing reliable and affordable vehicle repair services. Salim aims to make customers more comfortable by explaining vehicle problems and repair costs clearly. He also wants to use technology and artificial intelligence to improve remote vehicle diagnosis. The couple hopes their initiative will encourage more people and businesses to contribute towards animal welfare. Their story demonstrates how a small business can create a positive impact beyond its main services.
