A proposed $5 billion Moon-themed resort is attracting fresh attention as its developers explore the possibility of bringing the ambitious tourism project to the UAE. The concept, developed by Moon World Resorts, is designed to recreate aspects of the lunar environment through a large spherical structure and immersive visitor experiences. The project has also strengthened its space-related credentials by bringing an Artemis II astronaut into its wider team. The development reflects growing interest in combining tourism, technology, architecture and space exploration.
A New Direction for Space-Inspired Tourism
The proposed resort is planned as more than a conventional hotel or entertainment attraction. Its central feature would be a giant Moon-inspired sphere containing a simulated lunar surface and space-themed experiences. The wider development concept includes hotels, restaurants, event venues, wellness facilities and entertainment spaces. It is intended to offer visitors an opportunity to experience a recreation of the lunar environment without travelling beyond Earth.
UAE Remains a Potential Location
The UAE is among the markets being considered for the large-scale development, although a final site has not been confirmed. The project's founders have previously indicated that a UAE version would require approximately 556 acres of land and substantial government support. Abu Dhabi has been identified as a possible option because of its available land, but the company has not announced a confirmed local development agreement. The project's progress will depend on securing the necessary approvals, land and regional partners.
Space Expertise Adds to the Project's Ambitions
The recruitment of an Artemis II astronaut adds an important spaceflight connection to the resort's ambitions. NASA's Artemis II mission involves four astronauts who travelled around the Moon as part of a crewed test flight, supporting preparations for future lunar exploration. Moon World Resorts aims to connect hospitality and entertainment with space-related education and experiences. However, the proposed UAE resort remains under development, and no confirmed construction date or opening schedule has been announced for a local site.
