Pakistan Wedding Stampede: Two Dead and 20 Injured at TikToker’s Event

Deadly Crowd Surge at Sialkot Wedding Celebration

At least two people have died and 20 others were injured following a stampede at a wedding celebration in Sialkot, Punjab, Pakistan. The incident took place at Faraz Sports Stadium ahead of a mehndi ceremony hosted by social media influencer Anser Mahmood, popularly known as Mr Patlo. Thousands of people reportedly gathered after receiving invitations to the public celebration. The large turnout overwhelmed the arrangements made to manage the crowd. Emergency teams arrived at the venue to assist those affected and bring the situation under control.

Prize Announcements Attract Thousands of Visitors

The influencer had promoted a major prize draw through social media ahead of the wedding event. The announced rewards reportedly included 20 million Pakistani rupees in cash, a car, 50 motorcycles and smartphones. These offers attracted a significant number of visitors to the stadium. As the crowd attempted to enter the venue, the arrangements proved insufficient to manage the gathering. The resulting chaos led to the deadly incident.

Influencer and Six Others Arrested

Police arrested Mahmood and six other individuals in connection with the incident. They are accused of organising an unauthorised public gathering and negligence linked to the deaths. During questioning, the suspects reportedly described the incident as an accident and questioned the police response to crowd management. Meanwhile, the Islamabad High Court granted Mahmood protective bail on November 3. The order allowed him time until November 10 to approach the relevant court.

Questions Raised Over Crowd Management

The incident has raised concerns about safety arrangements at large public gatherings, particularly events attracting thousands of visitors. Organisers are expected to make adequate arrangements to manage attendance and protect those present. The reported scale of the gathering highlighted the challenges of controlling crowds at popular public celebrations. Authorities are continuing to address the case through the legal process. Further developments are expected as the investigation progresses.
