Officer With Cancer Goes Home To Die, So Cops Line Up To Salute Him One Last Time

Like any job, becoming a police officer is a calling. Often people who become cops keep their jobs for decades. They consider it their life’s duty to protect and serve.

In exchange, citizens give them the respect they deserve. And once they retire, they continue to inspire awe in everyone around them!

One such cop was Coon Rapids officer Denny Preston. He dedicated 26 years of his life to the force, taking many roles such as patrol officer, then as part of the drug task force.

Then 16 years after retiring, he was diagnosed with bladder cancer. Unfortunately, doctors caught the disease too late: it had spread to his brain, lungs, and heart.

Preston refused to spend his last days in a hospital bed, and chose to go home to die. His daughter, Missy, came up with an idea: she pleaded with the Coon Rapids Police Department to allow one car escort him home.

The police department did much more than that.

Not only was Preston’s ambulance followed by a couple of squad cars, but he was also greeted by no less than a dozen officers in his driveway. They saluted him as he was brought inside.

Now, the video of his final salute is going viral.

Preston passed away just a day later in his home, as he hoped he would.

Please SHARE to honor this officer after years of dedicated service.
