In a surprising turn of events, major countries of the MENA region, viz., Saudi Arabia, the United Arab Emirates, Egypt and Bahrain have called off their diplomatic relations with the State of Qatar.

The Saudi Arabian government announced that it was severing ties with Qatar and thereby pulled all Qatari troops from the ongoing war in Yemen.

The announcement was made early on Monday via the Saudi News Agency, which also stated that the kingdom was taking the action for protection of national security.

Following this, the Bahraini kingdom’s foreign ministry stated that it would withdraw diplomatic mission from the Qatari capital of Doha within 48 hours and that all Qatari diplomats should leave Bahrain within the same period, as reported by the Aljazeera.

It may be mentioned that this falling-out between Qatar and the other Gulf countries came up  after the hacking of the state-run news agency of the former, wherein false comments attributed to His Highness the Emir of Qatar Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani were published.

The Foreign Minister of Qatar, Mohammed bin Abdulrahman Al Thani, pointed out that there are international laws governing such crimes, especially the cyberattack, adding that will be prosecuted as per the law.
