After the killing of two children by their father who threw them from the top of a bridge near Cairo, an Egyptian mother threw her two sons into the Nile in southern Egypt, reportedly following a dispute with her husband.
Passers-by informed police who rushed and saved one of them, Hani, six months old, while the other son, Mohamed, 5, died.
During interrogations, it was revealed the mother had marital problems and that her husband had banned her from visiting her parents.
The investigation into the earlier crime which shocked the Egyptian society, revealed on Friday, that the father, Mahmoud Nazmy, 30, is a drug addict and under financial debt. He killed Mahmoud, 4, and Rayan, 3, to "relieve them of his financial burden," according to reports.
Both the mother and father are currently detained for further interrogations.
